Product Description / Basic Use
KBRS Hard Curb is made of a 3lb High Density R EPS material that is topped with a 1/2” thick PVCore material, then encapsulated in a fiber mesh and epoxy finish. This allows for superior strength using an EPS product. When using the Hard Curb you can now use any hardware to install door frames or heavy duty pivot points for the shower curb/threshold.
Uses
The KBRS Hard Curb is for use in commercial buildings, residential housing, and other areas where a curb/threshold that is ready to tiled is required. You can use any size tile, river rock, or other suitable surface (Corian, Acrylic, etc) on the Hard Curb.
Advantages
The Hard Curb can be cut to fit in the field. The Hard Curb installs quickly using standard modified thin set. The Hard Curb replaces the field made 2x4 curb that relied on the old liners
that can tear or get a hole in them during construction. The Hard Curb is made of tough 3lb EPS, PVCore, fiber mesh, and epoxy, resulting in a strong lightweight curb that will not allow the water to penetrate it and “blow out the tiles” due to expansion. The Hard Curb is solid all through; no void, stringers.
Suitable Substrates
Any suitable substrate that you would normally build a tile shower bed on; concrete, approved plywood surface, secured backer board, etc.
Technical Data
The core material of the Hard Curb is the 3 lb High Density R EPS (expanded polystyrene). The Hard Curb is covered on both sides with a fiber mesh and epoxy. The bottom of the Hard Curb is perfectly flat, the top has a 1/2” PVCore, (PVC type material) topping that is coated with the fiber mesh and epoxy. The dimensions of the Hard Curb is 4” x 4” x 61". Any size tile or solid surface can be used on the Hard Curb including river rock, all sizes.
Installation
On a suitable level substrate, using a 1/2 “ trowel, use a modified thin set to prep surface as if lying a tile. Apply a bead of polyurethane to the side next to the base, snug the Hard Curb to the base and lay the Hard Curb in place stand on it to insure proper bond beneath. Apply poly fabric with the elastomeric membrane according to the manufacturer’s directions to the seam to insure the waterproof integrity of the install.
Note; Some manufacturers do not require the poly fabric at the seams for use of their elastomeric membrane. To get a full warranty with your shower install check the manufacturer’s warranty info, you may need to use at least 2 like products, thin set and elastomeric membrane to get an extended warranty.
Limitations
The Hard Curb is not intended for use without a suitable substrate that can support the finished shower install.
