Acoustical Underlayment with Vapor Barrier
For use with laminate, hardwood, and engineered wood floor systems.
- SUPERIOR NOISE REDUCTION - outperformed the competition in head-to-head field testing for noise reduction. Three times the sound dampening weight of competing products.
- MOISTURE/VAPOR PROTECTION - the laminated polypropylene barrier protects four times better than the allowable transmission rate through a concrete subfloor.
- CRUSH-PROOF - the durable rubber material will not be crushed or degraded by the floor system like lower quality underlayments and will retain its noise reduction capabilities for the life of the floor.
- ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE - made from recycled tires. Helps eliminate a substantial waste stream from our environment. Qualifies for Executive Order 13101 and LEEDS Green Building Council Certifications.
- MOLD/MILDEW PREVENTION - incorporates Sani-Shield, an anti-microbial that helps to prevent the growth of harmful mold, mildew, and bacteria.
- EASE OF INSTALLATION - superior density allows the product to lay flat during the installation process.
- 20 YEAR LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY
Installation Overview
Floating Floor:
1. Check for subfloor moisture content. Always consult the flooring manufacturer’s written installation instructions, particularly with regard to moisture protection practices. In most instances RB Silent-Tread XL will meet the flooring manufacturer’s requirements.
2. Be certain the subfloor is clean, dry, smooth, level and structurally sound. Ensure that any nail heads are flush. Smooth out any other sharp subfloor protrusions and fill any holes, gaps or indentations.
3. Starting in a corner, unroll RB Silent-Tread XL over the subfloor with the vapor barrier on top. The vapor barrier flap should face away from the wall. RB Silent-Tread XL should be laid out perpendicular to the finished surface flooring to reduce seams.
4. Fit the perimeter edge at least 1/4” from the wall by cutting to size. Roll out the next underlayment row in the same manner while butting each roll seam together tightly. The vapor barrier flap on the next roll should be facing away from the first roll. The vapor barrier flap of the first roll should be taped down on top of the next roll using duct tape or other utility grade, poly-coated, clothbacked tape with an aggressive adhesive. Do not allow peaking or overlapping of seams.
5. Make certain there are no attachments or penetrations through RB Silent-Tread XL. If any, seal all tears or penetrations using duct tape or other utility grade, poly-coated, cloth-backed tape with an aggressive adhesive.
6. Install the surface flooring according to the flooring manufacturer’s written installation instructions.
