This is by far the easiest way to a perfect Curb. I'm a setter on the East coast and the plumbers here are still hung up on copper pans. Unfortunately too many so called tile installers will affix the inside portion of the CBU with roofing nails or screws and directly through the copper. All the general contractors i've come across just don't know any better and do the same.
The method is simple and installed the same way after a membrane wrap over studs. Drop the 'cage' over the existing wood framed curb, pack with mud, DONE! Of course you'll want to apply a coat of roll on membrane once dry to further protect the slab but the foundation for a worry free tile install is solid.
