This tool provides a simple means of stretching stairs and forming carpet around the stair nosing.
This tool provides a simple means of stretching stairs and forming carpet around the stair nosing. Hook the claw on the stair and pull the handle down. The pulling action of the gripper teeth stretchers the carpet across the stair, while the bottom side tucks it up under the stair nose. Recesses in the bottom edge make for easy stapling. The stair claw makes a tough job easier!

Works well for cut pile carpet only.
The claw is a nice concept to stretching carpet, but its use is limited to cut pile carpets which are thick enough to wrap the claw around the nosing. You have to dig claw in to get a grip, but its stretches nicely. I am afraid to use it on berber for fear that it may tear it.

Difficult to use
Although simple in concept, the claw was difficult to use. I found it hard to get a bite on the carpet and still be able to rotate to pull the carpet tight. I think the radius was mismatched to the stair tread thickness.
